So I got to thinking what would happen if I unhooked 1 arm of my tow bar and collapsed it. That way when you back up there would be no strain on the tow bar because you are only pushing the toad from 1 point. You could have someone in side the toad steer it to help. This way you could back up with out unhooking the toad. Then reconnect the tow bar arm and go on your way. I think this should work so if anyone has any input be it good or bad it would help us all.
I pulled into a parking lot and found it to small to turn around without backing up so I had DW set in my Toad and steer it while I backed up....worked without a problem but you do have to start it.

I've been to a many pull-thrus where the sewer connection is way at the back. If I need to dump, I'll use an empty campsite on my way out in the morning. I usually only need to dump once a week. If my waste tanks are less than 2/3 the waste rides along.

Wow, this was an interesting thread. Over the years, I've gotten into "jams" towing. I've backed up only twice but it was an extremely short distance at a gas station.
Does anyone know what the exact problem is to back up with a toad? I'm told it is the danger of the toads front wheels turning and being under extreme stress.
These forums are great..

Well, the wife and I have disconnected in about 45 seconds to a minute in one or two situations.
Exactly. Isn't that why we spent the money to be able to tow with a bar, so that we can quickly dis & reconnect? I just had to do that to parallel park and it took all of 5 minutes to accomplish the entire maneuver.

True that!
The set up allows quick and easy on/off. But some folks still have a indescribable desire to "save" even more time.

Always glad to learn from other people's experiments, just as I would be to spend other people's money. Please let us know how it works out (but do not send me the bill). Come to think of it, I would be very reluctant to do anything that might compromise the important link between MH and toad.

When I observe something like this I grab an iced tea and a chair. I'm always up for cheap (for me) entertainment.

I've never tried what you proposed. Regardless, I would caution against it; wouldn't be prudent IMHO.

Unhooking and rehooking is cheaper! I will sweat a little to save my bucks(butt)?

It's been over 2 wks since the original post. Wonder what happened when they backed up after unhooking just 1 of the tow bars?

Can't believe it took 26 post before this was finally suggested!
