Base plates

We are getting a new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. I am looking for someone to install new base plates for road master tow bar. I talked to camping world and got a estimate for $1300 for Base plates and new wiring. They said they could not do it until road master approved the base plates for the 2017 which will be in January sometime. The 2016 and the 2017 are the same but I am having a hard time finding someone to install it because of this. Looking for someone with in 200 miles of Southern Indiana.

I would use loctite on all bolts and nuts on the installation.

We had a local truck accessories shop install the baseplate, wiring, ReadyBrake cables, and breakaway cables on our CRV. They charged $500 for the complete job!

Get an itemized estimate with a break down of labor costs.

You want a description of the work performed, amount of time, and cost

installation of the base plate - labor time - cost
installation of the wiring ------ labor time - cost

I installed Blue Ox BP on my 2015 GC Limited. Must say I was disappointed with the Blue Ox quality control, compared to the one I installed on my Wrangler about 3 years ago. This time, holes did not line up correctly with Jeep frame mounts. Baseplate had a lot of welding slag that they just painted over at factory. Would think twice about Blue Ox next time.

At first I hesitated but after looking at a picture and the cost of the base plate on line I'm going to build my own base plate. I have access to a good welder and a metal cutting band saw. It will fit and be stronger than what I can buy.

I live 10 miles out of town and the shop that I can use. It may take me 3-4 days of trips to gather the metal, cut, weld, fit, weld, fit etc, but I'm sure I can do it for between $50 and $75 and they want $400.

I realize that not everybody can do this but if I can then why not?? That's part of the fun!!!
