Good info.

I also tow a 2016 Canyon and have been questioning why the battery disconnect and thinking of simpler ways to avoid the battery disconnect

This is the first post I've seen in which somebody has somewhat confirmed the E- steering issue

So, I'll follow the GM directions and disconnect the battery (although its a PITA)

Ive had no issues losing presets or time/date. The only loss was ambient temp which took a little while to recalibrate (I've only towed once, well see what happens in the future)

Like Moonshiner said, I can quickly connect and disconnect after making cheater cards and practicing a few times

I do take my time and pause after reconnecting the battery to allow electronic stuff to recalibrate. Just a little superstitious about rushing the electronics

There is a sigh of relief when I hear the transfer case shift back into 2 high….

i have a new solenoid if anyone needs it

I use a Roadmaster battery disconnect on my 2016 Canyon which senses voltage from the MH lights when you connect the toad light cable. It works great. The only thing that needs to recalibrate when you disconnect is the compass.
