Best and simplest JEEP to tow
Been thinking about getting the 2012 Jeep Liberty but its weight is up there.....a 2014 Patriot weighs 1000lbs lighter but isn't really a 4x4......what do you guys think?
Will be towing on either a 24k or 26k F-53 chassis

Towed a 2007 Liberty for 20,000 miles. Towed like a dream. Weighed about 4000 lbs.

If you want a Jeep, get a late model Wrangler. Simple to tow.

IMO, prior versions of Jeep Liberty, hands down. We towed a 2006 JL for over 11 seasons. No fuses to pull, no having to stop so many miles to run the tranny through the gears, never had any issue with the battery going dead (unlike our current CRV where we had to upgrade the battery). Transfer case in N, gear in P, dummy key in the ignition & it's ready to go.

They all tow the same; pick the one you want to DRIVE.
We have a 2004 Grand Cherokee for the times we want a Jeep. Much more comfortable.

Newer Wrangler steering doesn't lock. No dummy key required.

We just purchased a 2014 Jeep Patriot. 5speed,4wheel drive. Just drop it neutral and go. No stopping to circulate fluids, no speed restrictions. Nighthawk tow bar. RVI3 brakes. No holes to drill in fire wall. Setup connect and disconnect brakes in 60 sec. plenty of room and fairly light weight.

Just bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 6 speed manual transmission.
I love it. It does have a steering wheel lock but it’s not a big deal. Just install a battery disconnect switch. Easy Peasy! Plus it’s a fun drive.

The "newer" Wranglers have an actual oil pump type thing in the rear of the transfer case which allows very good oiling. I think this would include some of the later CJ Jeeps but I'd have to look. The YJ, TJ, JK Wranglers all make excellent toads. The steering wheel lock on the YJ, TJ, and very early JK is easy to defeat. Jeep finally stopped putting them in around 2009. All the Jeeps (I am talking real Jeeps like the CJ, YJ, TJ, JK, ) have really large Tail Light housings that installing an extra bulb and socket in is fairly straight forward. And remember, the newer the Jeep the heavier they get!!

True about weight of the Wranglers. Motorhome Magazine had the JKU at around 4100 lbs, but ours is around 4300 lbs with minimal stuff in it and 1/4 tank of gas. We leave the hard top on, so that's probably the extra weight. Still, it tows easily, no muss or fuss. Well within GVWR/GCWR.

I tow a 1997 Cherokee, put the transmission in 1st gear (Park for automatics), transfer case in Neutral and key in steering unlock position. Ready to go.
I use Ready Brake and Ready Brute for a braking and tow bar.
Lots of Cherokee's available. Very durable and long lasting vehicles.
