Best braking system?
I tow a 2005 Jeep Rubicon behind a 2012 Vista 26p. I have never used a braking system before, but after reading several posts on the subject I'm thinking it would be wise to start. Any suggestions on the best system for this setup?

It is kind of like which flavor of ice cream you like. Each one goes with what they think is the best. That being said I found that the Air Force One was the best unit for towing my Mini Cooper. It fit into the engine compartment which is "mini". deSanford PS Nothing to put into the car when hooking up.

Check out the M&G braking system. It may be used with either a diesel or gas MH. Absolutely nothing to set, move, or adjust. Everything is under the hood, not one thing inside the cabin.

We like NSA's ReadyBrute Elite with the built in ReadyBrake surge brake. If you already have a tow bar, the ReadyBrake surge brake can be purchased alone and can be used with it. As far as I know, other than buying used equipment, NSA's products are among the least expensive options out there for towing.

I use a ready brake with a Smarty. Works great. Have had M&G and BrakeMaster systems on other toads. They worked great also but for my current application, with Smarty and with my Malibu, Ready Brake is fine. Also have a BrakeMaster installed on the Malibu, albeit I would need an air brake supply to activate the BrakeMaster system. M&G was really the best IMHO, but not applicable for a Smart Car.
Legally, in most jurisdictions, a supplemental braking system is not required for a tow vehicle weighing less than 2000lbs and the RV/Toad combo can stop within the prescribed distance. Mine does, but it does stop shorter with the Smarty Toad brakes in play so I opt for the additional safety. Hope my experience and comments help.

We have the US Gear Unified brake system. Whether or not it's the "best", I have no idea, but it does work good for us. Requires no additional wires, cables, air lines or anything else to connect between the coach and toad. Here is the website for it: U.S. Gear RV Performance Products

My first choice was the "M&G", but I have a Mini and it wouldn't fit so Air Force One it is. deSanford

I wrote to Mike Cody at Freightliner Custom Chassis and was told that Freightliner does not endorse any system that utilizes the coach's air line for supplemental braking. They do endorse the dual rheostat systems like Unified Brake - and the best part is that later model coaches are pre-wired for it!!! That alone says a lot so I will be buying it for my toad.

X 2 on the RVIBrake2. It has saved me a couple of times. My toad weighs 4,700 lbs.
Try and live up to your dogs opinion of you.
