Your top two answers are going to be Honda CRV and a Jeep, I bet!

We bought a new toad this year and got a GMC Terrin. Has plenty of seat room (I am 6'4") and plenty of room in our back "Storage Unit" (Behind the back seat).

We really enjoy it so far.

Chevrolet Malibu is not too heavy, gets good mileage and is flat towable. We use a "Tow Daddy" light system so all we have to do is put the car in neutral key on ACC and go. No messing with fuses and the battery does not run down while towing. If you get a copy of the family motorcoach magazine about a month ago they put out the 2015 towing guide. It may be on their website as well.

We love our Kia Soul bought in 2013. 6 speed manual, large engine option, SMI stay in play duo braking, one switch to flip and less than 5 minutes to hook up. Also use a protect a tow guard. Added battery charge line from coach just in case.

Corvettes are always a good option.
If that doesn't work Jeeps seem to be most popular.

Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA) publishes a flat towing guide each year. I believe the 2015 Guide is only available to members, prior years can be accessed by nonmembers.

FMCA is for motor coach and motorhome owners. Motorcoach articles, motor home blogs, motor coach advice and motorhome videos.

Jeep Wrangler 2dr. In just under 5 years, our last gasser towed it to all 48 lower states and Alaska as well. The Jeep took us to some amazing places that were less traveled.

My own opinion, the "best" flat-towable car is Subaru ...any Subaru with a manual transmission. No speed restrictions, no distance restrictions, no fuses to pull or switches to remember to toggle, no supplements needed, no special procedures, no mileage registered --and they all have seamless AWD (very good in snow and ice), are relatively fuel efficient, and not extremely heavy.

Their reliability is pretty good (I personally have never had anything major go wrong with any of the Subarus I've owned) and some are even assembled in the U.S., my current Outback for example although the new Outbacks are not towable as manuals are no longer offered. Subaru manuals are almost as easy to drive as Hondas because of their very silky shifter and light clutch pedal.

Subarus are factory approved for recreational towing, i.e. are always listed in the annual Motorhome Magazine Dinghy Towing Guide (no need to write to the manufacturer for permission or confirmation as it is clearly stated in their promotional advertising that they are ready for recreational flat towing).

4WD Chevy Avalanche. Hook up in 5 minutes, push button to disengage drive shaft, great off-road capabilities, have a factory made tent that goes on the back for off-road excursions, plenty of room to haul stuff -bikes on the back and boat on the roof.

Don't even know it's back there.

Cheers.

Am sure there are a lot of great options, but we have only towed Jeeps. Easy to set up, easy to tow, fun to drive. Are a lifestyle vehicle that will allow you a lot of options after you set up camp. \ken
