I purchased a Used Road Master tow bar from a friend and purchased the New Road Master base plate on line. However I did double check with Road Master to see if the "old" Tow bar and "new" base plate were compatible. Fyi I bought the base plate from (ETrailer.com)
Good advice!

I did lots of research on different types of towbars and finally decided on the NSA Ready Brute Elite (RBE) due to the integrated surge braking system. There were many reviews here on this system and all were positive.

When I researched prices on the RBE, Amazon was about $100 cheaper, but didn't offer adapters for specific base plates. Buying adapters separately was over $100 so Amazon was not going to save any money. Hitchsource had good reviews on here and it offered both NSA towbars and Roadmaster base plates. I called them and they said the towbar would come with the correct adapters for the Roadmaster base plate so there would be now compatibility issues. (Hitchsource recommended a Roadmaster EZ5 for my 2016 Kia Soul.) I ordered all the parts, including the "Break away kit", from Hitchsource.

Thanks for all the great inputs on my questions!! Greg
