Hello all, Looking to gather information on the best cars/suv that can be towed 4 on the ground. We are interested in purchasin a new vehicle that will be our daily use and tow vehicle behind a 2008 Four Winds Chateau Class C. I believe the hitch is rated for 5,000 pounds. We would also like to know the best (and most economical) equipment used to tow the vhicle. Thsi will be our first time towing a vehicle, we have swithed from a fifth wheel to a Class C. Looking forward to hearing all of your advice

I have towed a Jeep Grand Cherokee for about 2 years and love it. Hook up, pop the transfer case in Neutral, put the Brake Buddy in, and away you go.
No stopping to let the transmission cool down, no 55 mph limit, no fuses to pull.

My vote - CR-V for it's AWD and generous ground clearance (great 2 track explorer), plus it's ability to cover a lot of ground with reasonable comfort and get decent milage doing it. The fact it's fun to drive is a bonus. Ready Brake for the ultimate in simplicity and ease of use, and Blue Ox, cuz I got a good deal on it used!
In your case, the fact it's 3400 lbs would be a bonus as well...

Hard to beat a CRV, Honda reliability, economy and value, plus they tell you that you can tow it four down, and how to do it.

Had a '97 Jeep GC full time AWD. Towed it many miles with no trouble. Got rid of it and bought something that got more than 10 mpg around town. But still a good towed. The CR-V is another one BUT, it's not an off road vehicle as it has no low range.
Now towing a '05 Honda Ody either on a dolly (approved method by Honda) or four down (not approved by Honda). The Ody was originally set up to tow four down till Honda changed their mind on it.

CR-V Tows easily, brief set up routine. Consumers Best Buy consistently, top 10 autos for resale value, silky smooth engine and trans, roomy little cuss, reasonable mileage, about 3500 pounds soaking wet.
Just a tad too much road noise--a negative sited by consumers.

I tow 4 down 2008 Jeep Diesel GC all wheel drive, Blue Ox tow hitch , Brake buddy. Very nice lots of room 23 MPG. Room to carry items in Jeep when towing helps. Have towed about 5 years. Use protect-a tow to keep Jeep clean.

Pulling a 2011 Ford Fiesta. About 2500 pounds. Roadmaster tow plates. Don't even notice it is there with my 2000 Pace Arrow 37S. Nimble little car that is fun and gets awesome milage. (did a run from Roanoke to Charlotte just after getting it and averaged 41 mpg). Simple hook up, but you have to do a battery disconnect. Also very limited back seat. For just the two of us it is nice. Plus we were out the door on the SEL version (leather, sirius, auto, sunroof etc...) for just over 16K.

We have a 2008 HHR stick that we tow behind our 36' class A. Road Master plate and tow bar. Hooks up easily and good on gas (30+).
