We just bought a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland diesel to replace our 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 5.7 Hemi.
The 05 has 164,000 on the odometer and been flat towed for another 50,000 that doesn't show. It's been a great Jeep, but we're ready for an upgrade.
Plus now we get 21.5 mpg in town.
We also have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler that is set up for towing as well. The Grand is a whole lot more comfortable.

Any one know if the 2002 Chevy Trailblazer (small one), 4x4 v6, can be towed 4 down. A friend has one with 91,000 easy miles on it that he wants to sell, but doesn't have owners manual, and I can't get a definitive answer from local GM dealer. Thanks in advance.

We recently ordered a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, new model for 2014. I think this will be a game changer in this category and size. It has all of the comfort and amenities of any of the other SUV/CUV out there and has amazing off road capability. This car also has a very easy tow procedure, it became a clear choice for us.
That being said, this is all new to us and time will tell if this will in fact be a good choice. Also "affordable" is a wide target depending on your finances. Longevity and reliability is very important to us and some Jeesp have had less than stellar performance,. With this in mind we are also purchasing the Chrysler lifetime bumper to bumper extended warranty. When we learned about this warranty it was a no brainier for us, especially that this is a brand new model year. We have always kept our cars for more than 10 years.
Other great choices in this segment were Chevy Equinox and Honda CRV. These were our other top choices.

I like the VW bug it is light and easy to hook up not much of a car but does what we want. And we get a lot of thumbs when towing

I don't remember the website but someone on here can probably quote it. It lists a large number of vehicles that can be towed 4 down and what if any mods need to be done to the vehicle. This link may be of some assistance.

We bought a 2011 pre owned Cadillac SRX with three years of warranty left. Safety rating is very good along with fuel mileage. Towing is very easy, depress the hidden button in console put it in nuetral and get out and shut the door! No key, no fuse to pull, no switch to install and it's 2 wheel drive. The Blue Ox base plate installs with no cutting of grill or valance. It's not for everyone but fills our needs nicely.

+1. when i purchased this rv, my first thought was to carry my motorcycle. what i really needed was to go to grocery store/restaurant after arrived to camping sites... considering whether and other factors, the wife and i decided to get a small car with auto and 4 down towable. fit fits our bill and does the job. we are aware it's small and light, so we drive it carefully and local only.

Although out of production, the Chevy HHR is a very good toad for 30-35 ft. gas MHs. It weighs around 3100lbs, and has large cargo capacity. We like ours for it cargo space. Things like a blue tank, outdoor chairs and grills fit nicely. It tows great and it is hardly noticeable. For use as a get around vehicle upon arrival, it is a comfortable ride and is fuel efficient. Ours has been through the Wyoming Rockies and I really never felt it back there. The MH did most of the breaking as I rearly noticed the Blue Ox brake activate. Lightly used HHRs are still available if you look hard. 2011 was the last production year.
