Best used dingy under 10K
We are looking for a 4X4 that weighs 4500lbs or less. Looking for suggestions on the best used vehicles under $10K.

"Best" can mean different things to different people. An older Honda CRV is a great, lightweight toad at a decent price, but it's not a trail use machine if that's the reason for the 4x4 requirement. If its a trail machine you want, look for a older Wrangler.

A Toyota Tacoma or Forerunner with a neutral in the transfer case is towable.

Jeep TJ Wrangler. 1997 to 2006. Automatic or manual transmission, your preference as both are flat towable.

You will get a longer lasting vehicle getting a TJ.
And don't worry if one has 80-100K miles on the clock. doesn't hurt them one bit.
Just look a the Flat part of the frame in the center for rust.

Jeep Wrangler and CR-V are the most popular tow vehicles. differing in what they offer obviously so you have a distinct choice between them Your parameters will work against you as they are both rated high in resale value. But 10K should get you into one that has plenty of good miles remaining.

We agree on the CRV!!!
On our second! Bought a 2011 for under 19k 28 k Mi.
May be a 06 or 07 would be in that 10k range. Jeep and Honda
Hold there value may be a Saturn they are also 4 wheel down.

I may have found what appears to be a good option. A 06 Jeep Liberty diesel 4X4. It only weights 4600 lbs. Anyone know of problems with the diesel, they only made them a couple years.

Only made short number of years because of emissions got tougher.
I have heard they have like 1 ft lb less torque than the 5.7 HEMI .
and they tow things GREAT and get Great MPG as well.

Jeep Cherokee would be my recommendation. I've had two, towing with 4 down is no problem even with an automatic transmission. Weight of a for door 4x4 is about 3500 pounds.

You can find a Jeep Grand Cherokee in that price range. They tow great, ride good, and even with the V8 get decent mileage. I towed a '00 for over 100,000 miles until it got totaled so I found a good clean '99 and now tow that. Don't want to tow my '14 GC, it is to pretty.
