Blue-Ox Alpha flat tow hitch question

Towing a 2015 Ford Focus SE Automatic. I have only used this system 2 times so far and I have done it without a brake system on the car. The Focus is 2800 lbs. dry. My State the limit is 3000 lbs. I understand about 1/2 of the States have a lower lb. limit. I was wondering if anyone has ever been checked before towing without brakes on the toad. It tows really well and I have no problems slowing down with it back there. I also have the brake exhaust on my MH. Being new to this hitch I also would appreciate any tips on the Blue-Ox Alpha set up. I have watch several videos on it and think it is pretty straight forward but some of you using this set up might have a few pointers on it. Thanks!

I tow a Jeep Wrangler, which weighs more than your Focus, and like you I didn't think I had any problems braking with it before I had a brake system installed. However, I decided to have a brake system installed just for peace of mind. In an emergency stop, I figure it could be the difference between an accident and no accident.

I went with a system by M&G Engineering which ties the toad's brakes in with the air brake system on the coach. So far I've been very impressed at how well it works, and like I said, I now have more peace of mind knowing that I'm in compliance with the law in all states, plus I know I'm being as safe as possible.

If you're interested, here's the link to the system I use:

RedRaider93,

Thanks for all the good info. I looked over the link and it really looks like a good way to go. Like you said it is the peace of mind and safety that counts. Thanks
