It really sounds like the 2013 GC owners manual is in error. I my opinion the factory will need to be contacted as no dealer will say anything other than what the book shows.

If it were me I would follow the 2012 instructions.

Good Luck...

I just called my dealer. The service adviser didn't think there was a steering wheel lock, but he wasn't sure. He connected me to the shop foreman who told me there was not a steering wheel lock on the 2013s, and hasn't been one on GCs for years.

Do you guys think it is possible chrysler put that in as a safety measure? I have 07 grand cherokee and no steering lock on it. I may be going out on a limb, but maybe reduce risk of fire or something like that in case of accident since no one should be in vehicle while towed. Just my 2 cents.

Just to clarify the issue - it has never been whether or not the steering column locks. The steering column does not lock. The issue is that some Jeep dealers and at least one Blue Ox installer are saying that the battery cable on the 2013 must be disconnected or the computer will activate during towing and the towed miles will be logged on the vehicle odometer. So far, no one here has actually towed a 2013 to verify whether or not this is true. I should know something soon as I just finished the install of the base plate and brake system on mine. Stay tuned...

Today I hooked up my 2013 GC to my coach for the first time and took it for a test run.

I set the GC up following the procedure in the User Guide (not the Owners Manual.)

I did not disconnect the negative battery cable.

I turned the key off and removed it from the vehicle.

I towed the Jeep for 35 miles. None of the miles registered on the Jeep odometer or trip meters.

There were no apparent adverse effects.

I will continue set up and tow my GC in the manner described in the User Guide, until I get some further information from Jeep that the User Guide is incorrect.

Thank you to everyone who provided input on this issue.
