Blue Ox tow with Patriot braking system Chevy Equinox

We are towing our 2016 Chevy Equinox with a Blue Ox and the Patriot braking system. The Patriot itself is fully charged and ready to go. The problem is we get a prompt when turning on the Patriot braking system that the battery in the automobile is too low to support the braking system functions.

The battery in the car is fine. The fuse is pulled when we tow, the key is in accessory mode, the auto is in neutral, and the emergency break-away function of the Patriot appears to be operational. It is the supplemental braking that is not operational because the car battery won't support the functions.

What are we overlooking?! Any suggestions?

I have the same system. First call Blue Ox they are very helpful.

I would plug in your Patriot system and charge it for 12 hours. Then all should be good. When I do not use it for awhile I always plug the unit in the night before to charge it up.

When you pull the fuse does that cut the power to the cigarette lighter outlet?

From the Installation Manual:

7. Plug in the power cord into a constant 12 volt power source.
The indicator light will glow.
Note: If constant 12V source is not used the brake could
experience a low battery error

On our '15 Equinox pulling the fuse DOES kill the 12v plug. We had our Chevy dealer install another plug wired to the battery.

Thank you! Didn't realize the fuse disabled the 12v plug.

We have 2015 we use the SMI AF one that doesn't require 12v to operate inside the passenger compartment. Before installing the current system I was thinking about the patriot. Our Equinox has two 12v ports, one inside console and one in the open space beneath cd opening. The one in the console is constant 12v even after pulling fuse 32. Which disables the logic circuit, you have turn off any other accessories. Otherwise you can end up with a dead battery in toad.

FYI, there is a red LED on the side of the BlueOx power plug that comes on when plugged in to tell you there is power to the Patriot.
