I brought a tow dolly and ask the bmw service if I could tow the car front wheels up. they said yes. I tried for first time other night and put the car on an found out that when keys are out will go into park and the back wheels will not roll. I tried leaving keys in and left it in N and then front wheels will turn and that was no good. took the car back home and on our trip with out the car. called bmw and they told me the 500 series can not be tow?? I guess I will see if they will take the dolly back and see about open trailer for our goldwingand rent a car if ever needed.

Jim, what a bummer! You could check into a drive shaft disconnect or transmission lube pump and then be able to tow it four flat with the use of tow bar. Keep us posted on what you find and decide to do.

We too tried to tow our BMW's (an E39 5 series and a E46 3 series, both automatic transmissions), to make a long story short, if you want to take the BMW with an automatic transmission, put it on a trailer. Both the 3 and 5 series are rear wheel drive and Remco does not make a disconnect for them. We ended up changing to a Mini (with a 6 speed). Blue Ox makes a hitch for it, weight is 2500 lbs, and I can put it on a RCP dolly with my gold wing or in/on a trailer with the wing and not exceed my GCVWR...

Good Luck
