Braking - auxiliary braking system for tow

Has any one been stopped or checked for a braking system for tow? Law passed few years ago have not heard of it being enforced yet. I did install a Roadmaster system and getting it hooked up again due to a new tow. Also, running new wire from front of RV to back of RV. Place that installed system first time ran wire under carriage which kept breaking giving me a false braking signal while driving. Wire now runs where wiring is for RV under flooring/top of compartments. Was not easy! Used a telescopic fishing pole with wire taped to end then started opening fishing pole. Had to go about 12' like that until I saw wire at propane tank. Hard part was over then up and over transmission to back of RV. Last part of this job was easiest front of fuel tank to inside of RV.

I've been towing a 2,900 lb. car 4 down for 13 years, (105k miles).
I've never been "stopped or checked for a braking system", (nor have I come close to running into/over anyone, or anything).
