Broken Steering Lock

I just finnished a trip from Florida to New York, towing my Kia Soul on a "Stehl Tow" Dolly, behind my 30 ft class C.
When I tried to start the car to back off the dolly, the key would not turn to start. I tried to turn the wheel to release the switch, as in the past, but the wheel was not locked.
After pulling the key lock out of the switch, I used a screwdriver to twist the switch back and forth and got the switch to turn.
Now it turns fine but no longer locks the steering, with the key off.
I think this happened while making some sharp turns in gas stations, with a very short car, causing the dolly swivel plate to pivot to it's limit, forcing the car tires to steer against the steering wheel lock.
I'm thinking this shouldn't be a problem with my car anymore, but be warned this could happen.

Unless you get into tight traffic while driving and a piece of the broken debris gets jammed in the steering somehow
