Buying New Toad

We are considering the purchase of a new Equinox and are considering using one of those car buying programs offered by Costco or USAA. Are these programs really good at providing a good sales price?

If it was me, I would go to the dealer first, see what kind of deal you can get directly from them and go from there, I have looked at USAA program and compared it to new and even used cars on Auto trader and could get a better deal on Auto Trader. Also, consider buying from another state..

If you are thinking of using Costco, do not go to a dealer first that uses Costco. And absolutely use Costco. The program will give you a great price. With that you can negotiate with non-Costco dealers if you choose. Case in point. About a decade ago, a Costco dealer gave me a great price on a vehicle but couldn't find the color I wanted. I found it the next day at a non-Costco dealer. I told them I would take their car today at the previously quoted price. They wouldn't. Next day the Costco dealer did a dealer trade and I got exactly what I wanted at a hugely discounted price! I have used nothing but the Costco referral system since I heard of it decades ago. Looking into it for our next RV purchase even! Remember you do not have to buy from them, but you will get a price that will only be beat by a very motivated dealer.
