Camera for Hooking up Toad

I’ve become pretty good at judging the distance between my RV’s tow bar and my toad’s towing brackets when hooking up, but every once in a while I goof and it takes me several attempts to get it right, even if (especially if) my DW spots me. [emoji16]

Not too long ago, I installed a new stereo in my Toyota Tacoma, my toad. The stereo came with two camera inputs so I asked the stereo shop that did the install to add a rear view camera. I went with a camera that is integrated into a chrome license plate frame. The installer noticed my tow bracket base plates and suggested I install an additional camera at the front, to aid me in judging the distance needed to hook up my toad to the motorhome. He said he did this for a previous RV owner and the owner loved it. As my name implies, I love gadgets, so I told the guy to install a front camera as well. I’m here to say that it works amazingly well. The camera is aimed to pick up my truck’s tow brackets, so I know exactly when to stop the truck without any other help. The camera also helps when pulling into a parking spot that may have an opposing car over the line, or other obstructions like bushes or parking signs.

I love gadgets that make life easier!

TOAD front camera

We like ours too. We replaced the DW's SRX with an '18 GMC Acadia and it has the "surround vision". Front, Back and Side cameras with the results "stiched" together with the vehicle in the center on the screen. With the Blue Ox in position, stopping at just the right spot is easy.

Another method of getting the proper distance is with the use of a laser tape measure. Mine came from Lowe’s. I hold it on top of the steering wheel, pull up to 9’ to 9’6” from back of coach and I’m ready to hookup
