The numbers certainly suggest that you can tow more than 5K. Does the manufacturer's manual indicate you can only tow a maximum of 5K? If yes, there may be frame extension limitations preventing towing more than 5K.

Good point. Manufacturers of incomplete vehicles can set their own specifications. The manufacturer of the coach has the final say. It would be prudent to talk to the coach manufacturer if you have any thoughts of exceeding the 5000 towing capacity.

My RV manufacturer states that the tow limit on the ACE 30.1 is a maximum of 5,000 lbs. I will keep it below 5,000, but I will be pushing the limit.

Not according to what the manufacturers usually say, although now that I've said that I'm sure someone will find one someplace that allows it!

Please excuse a newbie question here, but reading thru all this thread, I have to ask. I am hoping I will be able to pull a two horse trailer with our DP 35' Allegro Bus. What concerns do I need to have? Is a horse trailer much different from a car?

The major difference between a horse trailer and a car is live cargo in the trailer. With a DP you likely will have a 10,000 tow limit possibly more (Check with the deler to see if they offer a 15,000 hitch) and the D/P likely has the pulling rating.

However that said.. CHECK IT OUT FIRST. Ask, about the Tare weight ((Weight of the motor home plus water and fuel)) Max GVW,, CCC, and Max GCVW before you put your name on the line.

Your hitch will likely be used on other Thor chassis' of greater weight capability at 6000# or even greater. So no problem with the hitch.

Rule 1, don't exceed the GVWR
Rule 2, don't exceed the GCVW

Your in good shape go out and enjoy.

Please define CCC and GCVW! Thanks, GVW I already know what that stands for.

I pull the trailer with my Ram 3/4 ton with no issues. Guess i will need a brake controller also for the coach now that I think about it. Just an aluminum two horse with a dressing room, not over 6000 pounds loaded.
