I have a line on a Blue Ox tow bar that is rated at 5k lbs, (for a good price used). My Honda Accord weighs in at 4K lbs. Does this seem like a good fit?

I've towed our 4,400+# Ody with a 6,000# bar and had the Ody back end loaded so I was over 5,000#'s. No problem.

I got it including manual, such as it is cables, receiver drop, hitch lock, storage bag, never used, electrical cables. All from Craigs List. I never get good deals, I just lucked out and had to share.

RoadMaster, Demco and Blue Ox all make good bars. Friend got a Blue Ox at an FMCA show and was very happy with it.
I went with RoadMaster since their factory was only 20 miles from home, now they moved across the river and are even closer.

Found out today from Mandy at Blue Ox that they do not make a baseplate for my Honda Accord. Seems mine is an SE, so that's why. Not sure what the difference between an LE and and SE as far as the baseplate goes, but so be it. I checked with Roadmaster and they do make towbar attachment brackets. I just need an adaptor between the brackets and the Blue Ox bar and Roadmaster makes those too. That should work. I'm still considering the ReadyBrake system for supplemental braking. It seems so easy to deal with after the cable is installed. One problem for me is getting someone to install the brackets on my Honda. I guess I'll have to work on that.

I used a 5K tow bar with my 4K Lumina APV.. Just make sure the bar is LEVEL when towing (you may need to use an adapter to adjust the height of the hitch receiver on the tow vehicle)
Note: Using a drop hitch adapter REDUCES the capacity of the hitch receiver, BIG TIME.
Also, the standard safety cables Blue Ox provides with the tow bar..
Question: if the hitch breaks or comes apart will those cables hold a 4,000 pound towed:
Answer: YES.

Thanks, will take into consideration. I do have a drop hitch piece if I need it.

I use the ReadyBrake system and I love it. Of course I'm towing a Fit so it only weights 2,500# but the system works as advertised.
