I have had trouble with with the third to first third issue with my transmission from day one. There have been a couple of TSBs issued that helped somewhat for a while, but then I started getting a clunking sound when it shifted from 4th to 5th.

When I had it at the dealership for the RV wiring kit installation I had to contact JeepCares (Kori was my rep) to get it covered under warranty. I also mentioned my transmission issues to Kori. Two days later I received a phone call from my dealership that they had received authorization to replace the transmission. However they had to wait until after 8/1 to order it so that I received the latest version. The new transmission arrived yesterday and is being installed today.

Based on my experience with Kori, JeepCares is the best thing FCA has going for themselves. She stayed in constant contact with me and the dealership. Even the servce manager was impressed.

We've not had any shifting problems and have 31,000 miles on it right now. The only issue I have is the abrupt shift and throttle response when you slow almost to a stop and then accelerate. There is a slight delay, then the engine revs and and it accelerates abruptly. It's almost like popping the clutch.

I believe what you describe is what I was referring to with the third to first issue. What's happening is the transmission is bypassing second gear when downshifting. So when you do not come to a complete stop it will try to accelerate in third gear which is the revving you feel. As you apply more throttle it will kick down to second gear with a jolt.

As I'm sure you're aware there have been a couple of TSBs issued in an attempt to deal with this issue through the software. However since they are installing a new transmission in my vehicle (as I've heard they have done for other 2014/2015 Cherokee owners), it's pretty clear the fix involves more that just a software revision.

The fourth to fifth clunk that I described starting happening after Jeep had already said they were replacing the transmission.

I'll keep my eyes open for a Recall Notice. This TrailHawk is shaping up to be the most problematic vehicle I have ever owned.

My main issues have been the down shifting when coming to a stop and then continuing to go and the fact that I bought a car that was designed to be Flat towed as is from the factory and then receive an Addendum in the mail that states you have to have this wiring harness installed to make it Flat Towable. Let's just say FCA mad things right by paying for the wiring harness and the install. I personally have not had the Death Wobble issue but now that the harness is required they have a means to not honor any warranty for problems from the death wobble, ie cracked frames and messed up suspensions and power steering units.
I like my Trailhawk but GM is looking better and better everyday.
