Cherokee wiring

I'm working on setting up my '99 Cherokee for flat towing. I have my brake system and tow bar setup figured out (see my other thread ). So now I need to figured out the wiring.

Seems like I can just punt and go with magnetic lights but I was hoping for something more elegant

Searches turned up some references to a system that uses extra lights inside of the housing for newer Wranglers but I assume that is because they have a bus system for the lights. I suspect there is a simpler way for the older Cherokees.

I also turned up some diode based systems from Blue Ox but Im wondering if there are other options.

My RV is an 01 Winnebago Journey 36LD with a 7 pin connector.

Im also interested in learning if I need to disconnect the battery, pull fuses, etc.. and if there is a need to leave the key on with battery connected what is required to charge toad battery from coach?

When I wired my 06 GC, I installed the separate bulbs in the taillight housing which allows you to wire it up without affecting the existing harness. I don't know if the '99 taillight housing will accommodate a separate bulb, but if it does, I think this is the way to go.

I don't know if it came up in the other thread, but I am going with Towmate.com wireless lights. Not inexpensive, for sure, but with a Cherokee you would have plenty of metallic places to locate them. Not so on a current Wrangler. I cut some sheet metal plates and purchased a couple of bullet proof nylon straps from a company in Eugene Oregon, to hold them on. Can't wait to try them out. Now if I could make up my mind about the bumper!

I like the towmate lights but they are pricey.

I was wondering, if I have a good battery and am towing a short distance can't I just turn on the parking lights on the Cherokee? The brake lights will come on when the brake controller activates the brakes on the toad so I don't see why that will not work.
Taking that one step further, if I get a charging system so the Coach charges the toad's battery, then can't I use this solution for long distances?

Just noticed your post today. The problem with that solution is no turn signal. My Towmate lights arrive this week I will let you know what I think of them.
