Chevy Colorado 2WD 5 Spd

Just purchased a gently used Chevy Colorado for a toad behind MH. All the references, or most, refer to 4WD auto. Seems I should be able to put the 5 spd in Neutral and tow away. Anybody do this?

Check your owners manual or check with the manufacturer. There will still be something spinning in the transmission and we don't know if it will be lubed without the input shaft turning.

Just made a 200 mile tow no problems although did get a low battery reading on the MH monitor. Followed directions ... Key on lock position. Should not be drain on the battery any suggestions?

No it's not approved for towing and it is likely that you will damage the transmission if you do tow it - well not on the first mile - but if you tow it some greater amount you will damage the transmission.

Why??
The transmission in the Colorado (Canyon) is not lubricated when towing. Some transmissions (not these) lube their bearings by splash or pump that is on the rear output shaft, therefore the bearings get lubed when towed.

Other transmission,s (Colorado), get the lube from the front input shaft which will not be turning when transmission is in neutral and will not splash/pump lube to the bearings.

How long will it take the transmission to fail?? A mile - not likely - a 1000 miles - maybe - More miles - likely but how many miles -who knows - but it will fail
