Class A towing travel trailer?
We’re considering buying a class A to hit the road!!!
But - we need to bring my mother-in-law!!!
Is it possible to tow a lightweight travel trailer behind a good size gas or Diesel class A coach? Is it safe?
I need a place for her to call her own,... or somewhere else to sleep! Love mom, but to much of s good thing can become a burden.
Thanks for your insight!

Depends on the MH capacity. Mine has a tow rating of 15,000#'s but my length of 45' somewhat limits the length that's legal.
What's legal in you're home state means nothing, you must comply with the requirements of each and every state you enter

2 days ago, in the city of Okeechobee, FL, an older DP with a teardrop trailer attached. Couldn't help but think of how bad someone would have to be to be relegated to the trailer. Everything from snoring to gas passing to hogging the TV remote.

"Sorry Mom...the only two campsites that aren't reserved are on opposite ends of the park!"
I saw (briefly) an older class A pulling an ultra light TT headed the opposite way on US 287 between Dallas and Amarillo a couple of weeks ago.
From the way he was out of level it sure didn't look like he cared about his GVWR, GCWR, hitch capacity, etc.
I'd imagine that so long as the various load limits are respected you'd do fine--not like you should have any frontal area concerns.

Met some folks With DP that towed a TT they had setup as a hobby room.

Ahhh yes, thanks, I didn’t think about overall length... looks like 65’ max. So, thanks, that will limit our selection somewhat. And weight of course.

I’ve seen 10k to 15k limits and such. And TT’s easily under 8k. So my thoughts are,... it’d work!
Just didn’t know if it was crazy to think about and/or safe from a drivability standpoint... wind/road conditions. I’ve seen the videos of a TT pulling a vehicle and flipping it over like a wet fish!

Ha, well it’s just so she has her own space. She’s 84 and visually impaired and can only handle a few minutes at a time of our children 4 years. She’d come over for cookouts and family time, but likes to get away from us too.

carnival people do it all the time but from what I've seen they don't worry about towing capacity

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
As Mr. D said, you'll have to be legal in EACH state you drive through!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Lance makes a nice line of small but more than enough for one or two TTs. Light enough for SUV or light PU to tow.
I'm sure you could pull one with a 33 or so gasser

Getting real... You will find most gas A's cannot handle much over 5000 lbs. Most DP's can do 10,000 or better. Mom probably does not need something more than 20 ft assuming we are talking living and sleeping space. That will give her all facilities. I would assume she would really be doing meals with the larger family but want the ability to do things on her own if needed. That would be reasonable. The problem for you is that the trailer will eliminate taking a towed vehicle for general cruising around. That could be a problem. The kind of trips you want to do is also an issue. If you are going to drive a lot of miles then getting MIL up and in the MH might be a problem for starting off. If you are planning on long stays someplace then there is the towed issue. I might look at alternatives for giving her some privacy that would also let you take another driveable vehicle.
