Class III to IV adapter sleeve ok?
My new rig has 10K hitch with 2 1/4 inch reciever. Is it okay to use a 2 1/4 to 2 inch adapter sleeve in the reciever for toading?
My Wrangler is about 4500 loaded.
Thanks in advance.

Dave, I encourage you to read the 'fine print' regarding loading on the adapter receivers. Many of them de-rate load capacity by as much as 50%.

Dave, I've never heard of a 2 1/4" receiver. You sure it's 2 1/4" and not 2 1/2"? If it is 2 1/2" then you can find an adapter to go from 2 1/2" to 2" and I see no problems in what you propose........providing the adapter meets your weight requirement.

That's correct, there is no 2 1/4 inch receiver. The next size up from 2 inch is 2 1/2.

E-Trailer has a bunch of different ones for reducing 2 1/2 inch down to 2 inch.

If you choose one of the short ones there would be any weight issues. If you choose one that extends out a long ways, like 3 or 4 feet, then you may have to de-rate it a little maybe.

Thanks Richard.
Yeah, it is 2 1/2 inches. All I need is the short adapter to put the same hitch into the sleeve and into the reciever. Sounds like a winner!

I have the same situation on my pickup except mine came with the reducer sleeve. It slips inside the 2 1/2 inch reciever and adapts it to 2". No reduction in capacity as it doesn't extend, just reduces the size. Was challenging to align the holes so ended up having the sleeve tack welded in place. Now have a 2" reciever.
