Confused about GVWR on a tow dolly

I am looking at the specs on a tow dolly and it says the GVWR is 3500 lbs. the dolly weight is 500 lbs so that leaves 3000 lbs left, what I am confused about is the 3000 lbs the weight you can put on the dolly or is that the total weight of the vehicle. My truck weighs 3800 lbs, 2400 lbs front axle weight and 1400 lbs rear axle weight. Does that mean I can tow my truck with this tow dolly since I am not overloading the axle rating or does that mean the most the vehicle can weigh is 3000 lbs.? I know one of the limiting factors is the tires, the are only C rated load which is 1760 lbs ea. I am going to change the tires to a D rated tire. Thanks for clearing this up. I can understand GCWR and how it applies to vehicles but not trailers.

What dolly are you looking at? I have an Eze Tow and it handles up to 5000 pounds. This handles my 3700 pound Murano easilly.

I got a Forest River Car-Tow. The Manual doesn't specify a maximum total weight, it only says on the frame the GVWR is 3000 lbs. and with the weight of the dolly it is 500 lbs. The tires are rated at 1760 lbs ea so that would make sense about max weight on the dolly. I bought it used, only a year old and I guess I should have asked more questions but got it for a good price that included surge brakes.
