Curious, is it just a preference you feel you NEED both to be diesel ?
as long as one is being towed, it's not using fuel and can be filled up when detached...

While I love my deezle truck for towing, @ 8k lbs weight, not a great toad
I'm not locked into diesel for the other vehicles as there are so many options...

the 2.0T turbo Q5 gas we have is a great little car but not sure it can be towed...

I doubt very much that the Q5 will be towable. We've owned Audis in the past and none have been towable. One, most are AWD and, two, most now have automatic transmissions. The Q5 is a very attractive small SUV but we're almost sure when the diesel comes out, it will be AWD and will have an automatic transmission.

Both Audis and VWs have never been towable in their AWD versions, and none of their automatic transmission vehicles have been towable so its a double-whammy for a Q5 not to be towable as it will have both AWD and an automatic.

I think that the reason there are so few diesel SUV of small pickups is that diesel cost between 15% to 25 % more than gas in the US. So fuel cost is similar for a gas powered or diesel powered, and for a diesel vehicle you have to pay a hefty premium when you purchase it.

I got an 06 liberty diesel. Hard to find and they do have issues. But I love mine.

Yes, but diesels give back much more than 15-20% more in MPG so fuel costs are usually better than a comparable gas engined vehicle. We think part of the reason diesels haven't really caught on in this country are because of the strict emissions standards. Now that those issues are being addressed, there will be more and more diesels offered.

We love diesels because of the torque and the much better MPG. We are glad our older motorhome doesn't need DEF, however!

Jeep putting diesel in 2014 model(s) (Grand Cherokee for sure) from European line. Should start seeing them early 2013. Mileage said to be around low 30's. Info from dealer.

The economics don't make sense when diesel is 25-30% more expensive than gas. I am looking for a plug-in hybrid SUV that can be towed, but I may not live that long.
