Dinghy Towing a H3 Hummer

Owners manual of my H3 says I can dinghy tow, but I have to leave the key in accessory, does anyone know why or is there a way to work around it, do not want to run the battery down.

Will venture a guess that the key is left in to unlock the steering.
Our SUV must have the key in the ignition for this reason (switch on - then off - but leave it there). If you pull the key, the lock immediately engages. This is easy to test to check.

Best luck
