Not sure if this applies but there are adapter boxes as not all vehicles are wired the same. Some have dedicated bulbs for functions and some have bulbs that are used as a combination indicator. An example is the MH has separate stop, turn and backup lights. The tow has a separate backup and a combination stop/turn signal. The latter will require an adapter box.
Good luck and safe travels!

Interesting issue. Where physically did you install the diodes?
I would grab a test light, not a voltmeter so you don't get fooled and begin checking right at the diodes. If you installed the diodes somewhere in front of the brake circuit the pedal may be breaking the path.
