You might swing by a GMC dealer and ask a tech which fuse will dissable that function. I am sure you are not the first person to tow that vehicle.

I had an older Tahoe I flat towed (2001?)- If my memory serves me correctly, their is a fuse the manual says to pull. I now have a slightly newer one (2004) and I think the key just has to be in the right position. I would think your manual would tell you....?

I would think that if you have the key in the right position (clicked forward to first spot and not 2nd spot), then it shouldn't record the mileage. Regardless, all the information you need should be in the manual under dingy towing (or something to that effect). All else fails, contact GMC.

Check with your dealer before doing anything. You do not want to wreck anything due to poor advice or ignorance.

I do know that on our 2006 Saturn Vue, AWD, Honda drive train all I have to do is remove the ignition fuse but leave the key in the ON position. Rather than remove the fuse I installed a 30A inline fuse and 30A toggle switch in the driver's compartment so I just flip the toggle instead. Cleaner and quicker!

You are the first person I know of to report this problem with a GM pick-up. Surely some others here must have a mid-2000's GMC 2500 diesel. Does anyone else see mileage accumulating? If not, what is RVnewbie55 doing wrong?

With the engine off you lose your power brakes and power steering. Now imagine some clown pulling out in front of you. Sorry - bad advice.

You are correct but I believe and I think most others in this thread as well that he meant "Disconnect while towing" or "Disable when Towing" and we have given instructions as to how to do that (Turn off ignition).

Nick-B - Really..... your drifting do you need power steering or power brakes. Hmmmmm if your car lost power, going down the road, you believe Nick that the car won't steer or brake..... Really!

Again you are making an assumption not supported by fact

Yes, I am towing 4-Down. Sorry to get folks in a snit. I am not trying to cheat on mileage etc. I just don't feel that mileage should accumulate if just being towed with no wear & tear to the engine or tranny. I am going to experiment with removing various fuses and will report back. I have not obtained aux. braking unit yet, but will before heading out on any major trips later this spring.

Tell you what.. If that thing is racking up the miles while you tow it, Google Remco Towing.

Enter the specifics (Make, Model, line, engine size, transmission, and such) into the took that is on their STORE site (left hand frame) and see what the main frame says.. (May tell you which fuse to pull).

I finally found it. It is in the main fuse box under the hood. It is labeled
IPC/DIC and it is a 10 amp fuse. Pulling it disconnects power to the entire dash cluster...no dash lights OR gauges. I then towed it 30 miles to get a few things taken care of and after unhitching from the coach, put the fuse back in and the mileage was exactly the same as when I left.

As long as that solution also disables the ability to start the vehicle, I think you are perfectly legit in doing that. It is kinda a pain though. Certainly, lack of dash instruments would make it hard for one to say they "forgot" to put the fuse back in place.

I'm still scratching my skull on why your situation is the first one reported on IRV2.
