We'll be towing a 2016 Ford Edge and the manual says to disconnect the neg side of the battery when towing. The company who installed our Blue Ox tow system ran a charging wire from the rv to the pos side of the car battery to keep it charged while towing. The car battery is also used to power our RVI brake system.

I assume Ford wants you to disconnect the neg wire on the car battery so it doesnt drain.

Any thoughts?

I use the RVI charge system, hookup and go. Battery is charged while going down the road when needed. 2011 Ford Edge and Air Force One.

We did the same as you (except with AF1 system) and it seems to work very well. No battery problems on our 2016 Edge.

I'm leaving the negative wire connected on the car battery so it can be charged while traveling. RVI has a battery charger option I'm looking into, but don't think I need it.

You may need to confirm with Ford why they want the battery disconnected.
If you have electric or electric assist steering that may be the reason.

I have a 2016 Colorado and it has to have the battery disconnected otherwise you can damage the electric steering - nothing to do with draining the battery.

We use a Roadmaster disconnect that detects when you connect the lights. Keeps battery charged too. Works great.

FYI, for you with Electric Steering. FCA is having issues with Death Wobble on their Cherokee due to NOT having the Electric Steering on while being Flat Towed. They have now created a Patch to have it on so you have some positive reinforcement on the steering rack while being towed.
If you all of a sudden notice your TOAD wobbling behind you then you too have the Death Wobble and will need to contact whoever designed the TOAD to get some sort of fix. (Basically the front wheels start going from side to side and the only way to stop it is to come to a complete stop.) It shakes the MH violently.
