Leave hitch on RV when travelling with toad. Use lock Pins for hitch to receiver and for ready brake. Take cables off and store in RV if I leave it unattended. Always remove my Blue Ox "Tow brackets" from baseplate when driving toad. Use lock pins on tow brackets to prevent theft, but a prepared and determined thief could break/cut these off.
Have cover for hitch but don't use it often when travelling unless I am parked for several days. I do frequent preventive maintenance on tow bar & ready brake. Place safety cones under hitch to help prevent walking into it when parked.
Carry spare power cable, pins, and Blue OX tow brackets.
