We're looking at getting a 2011 Ford Edge AWD to tow. Just want to verify that the odometer does not work while it's being towed. The vehicle manual didn't address this issue. It just said to put the transmission in Neutral, turn the key to Accessory, run the motor for 5 minutes, then you're good to go.

Any suggestions or cautions about getting the Edge as a tow vehicle? We have a Jeep Liberty now and it's great but just a bit small.

We tow a 2010 Edge......a rear wheel drive, though. Before we got ours, I spoke with a man who said he had towed his Edge for 24,000 miles. We've put 10,000 miles on ours and the odometer doesn't move towing.

No fuses to pull, no switches to throw. It works precisely as advertised. Put in neutral, turn the key off as far as it will go........you can't pull the key out, so you'll need the other key to lock the car. When you stop, go start the car and let it run. Run it through all the gears. Put back in neutral and turn the key off again.

hmm you may want to double check
a flex with AWD is not recommended for four down towing
the joint venture 6 speed was built to be four down towed, only in the FWD variants.

the FWD version in an edge is.
also edge has never been a rear wheel drive CUV

be safe check

You really need to check your own links before posting. The Flex, Edge, Explorer, Escape, MKS, MKT and MKX are all towable 4 down without modification. FWD, AWD. V6 and Ecoboost. Ford is supporting this market in a big way.

Towing a Vehicle
Behind Your Motorhome
With All Four Wheels Down
“Four-Wheel-Down” Towing
Many motorhome owners prefer the practicality of having
another vehicle along when they travel. In fact, towing
another vehicle behind the motorhome has become more
and more popular in recent years. Furthermore, many of
those who want to tow another vehicle prefer one that
can be easily towed without a dolly or trailer. The car and
truck models shown in the chart at right can be towed
with all four wheels down. For safe operation, towed
vehicles (or dollies or trailers carrying them) should be
equipped with a separate functional brake system. See
page 27 and back cover for additional brake information.
Note: Some aftermarket camper centers offer kits which
may allow vehicles with automatic transmissions to be
flat-towed. Check your new vehicle Warranty Guide, as
this could void the warranty of your vehicle.

The Edge, all versions can be towed four down. The AWD cannot be towed on a dolly. You could tow the FWD on a dolly provided the front wheels are the ones on the dolly.

That was my understanding as well...I just didn't read it that way.

Just had the 2011 EDGE (fwd auto) base plate installed. Have been told on this blog that another EDGE owner had battery drain problems when towing. I E-mailed FORD and was expecting an answer in 2 days was the reply. Still waiting. anyone else have battery problems when towing??

We read some posts about that also, so when we had the base plate installed, we had them run a direct line from the motorhome battery to the Edge. We've towed it 3 times now, the longest trip was about 4 hours. No problems towing it. No real difference from when our Jeep Liberty was back there.
