Does transmission fluid go bad?

I'm getting ready to change the transmission fluid in our 2013 Honda CRV prior to towing full-time. As I was cleaning out the garage I found a whole unopened case of Honda ATF-Z1 that I bought six or seven years ago for our old Honda (RIP). I completely forgot I even had this.

Is there any reason to think that this fluid isn't good still? Does this stuff have a shelf life? I have no idea.

This stuff is expensive so I hope I can use it.

Shelf life for transmission fluid is 3,422 years. Transmission fluid life in a vehicle is also 3,422 years unless it gets overheated for some reason. My BMW car goes for ALL scheduled service. There is NO service scheduled for the transmission fluid.

Automatic Transmission fluid is a non-detergant 30 weight oil.

Unused it's shelf life is just short of infinity.

Used it typically is replaced "changed" following vehicle manufacturer recommendations.

Is there a phone number on the carton or on a can? You could try giving them a call.

I would check if it is compatible with your newer Honda trans. The trans in my 2013 VW Passat never has to be changed good for life of trans. No way the even check the fluid. A lot of manufacturers are going that way.
