I tow a 2001 Jeep Cherokee behind my Dutch Star
and have a few times also towed a trailer with my golf cart on it hooke benind the Jeep.
Anyone had any problems with state laws around the southeast on towing that way.
I have only towed here in S.C. and seem to have no problem with laws..etc. Would like to hear the problems if any.

As I understand it, Florida requires a CDL fore tandem towing. However, I've also read reports that said people did it and didn't get stopped. Of course, that doesn't help if YOU get stopped.

The Trailer Life Guide has a summary of towing laws in all 50 states and I think it covers tandems.

Don't know the law for sure but if you have brakes and breakaway protection on each towed unit you might at least talk your way out of it because you have taken appropriate action on the side of safety.

All the towing law summaries I have checked give a flat "No" for tandem (two) trailer towing in Florida. However, federal rules may supercede state laws on interstates and the national highway system, so there may be some leeway there.

Personally I'm against it. Everything goes fairly well when moving smoothly down the highway, but what happens if there is a need to brake or swerve suddenly? Or in strong side winds? A single trailer can jacknife easily enough; two is begging for trouble. Just my opinion...
