The drive shaft disconnect for rear wheel drive vehicles is a remotly operated (Via cable) Spline clutch, this is technology that is older than my 60+ years and in fact pre-dates my great grandfater's time.

Theory it should never fail, in practice I know of a FEW (Considering all the folks on these forums using them a FEW (Like less than 10) means the failure rate is low, who have had problems.

The biggest problem... The cable will size up if you do not use it every once in a while, epically in the great salted north.

The other problem.. ONE, just ONE poster reported it would disconnect without cause.. I suspect he had other issues but frankly without eyes on his pickup.. Can't say what.
