I once drove about 15 miles to a horse show with the coupler open. At the time I was working about 16 hours a day and just missed it. Fortunately for the horses and me the tongue on the trailer had been extended 6 foot from it's original position in order to fit under a pickup camper. It never budged. I kicked it closed as soon as I saw it, so the trip home was uneventful.
