End of the CR-V as a 4-down toad

The 2015 Honda CR-V was released this morning and, as predicted, it has a CVT transmission. Although I haven't seen any specific information on towing this model behind a MH, the Accord with a similar transmission is not towable. We're very glad we bought ours in 2014! For toads with automatic transmissions that can be towed 4-down, I guess that pretty much leaves the business to the Chevy Equinox and those 4x4 vehicles with transfer cases that can be put into neutral.

Here's one of the many of today's articles about the new CR-V: 2015 Honda CR-V First Drive – Review – Car and Driver

There is still the Subaru Forester (manual), if you can find one, or the Cadillac SRX if you want a bit more luxury. I am waiting to see if the 2015 Ford Edge is towable, (Ford wouldn't tell me ahead of announcement).

Towing CR-V was one of the reasons I bought MH versus buying pickup and 5er. Can you tell me does the odometer register when towing ? Its an 2006 CR-V. Have a Roadmaster tow bar and still need to buy baseplate to match.

Thanks.

All modern vehicles use electronic odometers and do not register mileage while being towed.

Some of the 2015 Jeeps are not flat towable either I have heard. They do not have the transfer case that can be shifted to Neutral. I'm talking about models that previously were ALL flat towable in the 4 WD versions. Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, etc.

It would be interesting to know how many CRVs have been purchased nation wide because they could be towed four down. Oh well, it's natural that things change and we, as RVers, will adapt and move on.
I think the value of my 2013 CRV just went up....

Yep, our 2011 CRV has 18,000 mi and the 2004 Rubicon has 31,000 mi so I'm pretty well set. I agree, the value of both just went up!

The ford escape hybrid up to its last year produced (2012) is flat towable.....and I think it has a CVT transmission. I want one....problem is they hold their value well and are still expensive....or is that a problem ?

Found a nice 2012 model but it was still $25,000 used !

They probably are using the two different transfer cases that are on the 2014 Cherokee. The less expensive one doesn't have a low range nor does it have a neutral position.

With the change on the new Jeeps too, I think our Liberty's value inched up a bit also.

It is getting harder to find automatic transmission vehicles 4-down towable that my tall husband will fit in. When the Jeep costs more to fix than to keep, don't know what we'll do.

As stated, the more expensive (naturally) Jeeps still have the shiftable transfer cases. The manufacturers just want more money from us.

There are numerous FWD and AWD vehicles from Ford and GM that can be towed 4-down with auto trans. A few are Ford C-Max, Edge, Explorer, Focus, Taurus, Lincoln MKX and MKT, Chevy Equinox and Traverse, Buick Enclave and Regal, GMC Terrain and Acadia. The loss of Honda as a towable is a sharp blow but there are still alternatives.

After buying our Wrangler we thought of selling our 2003 CRV. Now we will keep it instead and use it if needed, as it was always a great toad.
