Equinox Setup as Toad??

While being in the early research stage of getting a used motorhome I need to know how to setup my wife's Equinox as the toad. She will freak out if I have to cut holes that are ugly in the front. I have been searching for instructions on what is required and how to install these with not much luck.

Is this something a RV dealer would do?

Blue Ox is what I use with removable pins. I'm very happy with the way it works and the way it looks when not towing. We have this setup on a 2009 Saturn Vue. I myself don't like some of the other setups I have seen with a lot of hardware hanging off the front of the vehicle.

Here is a link to the Blue OX install manual for a newer Equinox.
BX1689. My friend has a 2012. Unless you knew it had one you cannot tell it was installed when pull tabs are removed.

I used Roadmaster on 2012 Equinox. There is a utube video on etrailer.com that gives step by step instruction on how to install. We have had no problems with Roadmaster, and I don't recomend Roadmaster over others, it just gives you something to compair to.

We have been towing a 2011 Equinox Blue Ox setup. It is great and the front end is clean looking.

I also vote for the Blue Ox setup if you want something that's not obtrusive when not towing. I would also check with Blue Ox on local dealers for your area. Generally, I would go with a good hitch shop over an RV dealership for the install.

Another vote for Blue Ox. We have a 2010 GMC Acadia - my wife's dream car - and defacing the front end would be a crime. The pins remove easily, leaving little indication that the car is a toad.

I have the Blue Ox setup on my 2011 HHR and a friend has it on his 2011 Equinox. As others have said with the pins pulled there is nothing to see.

While doing more research is this everything I will need (see below). I originally figured this would cost around $3000, but now am leaning toward $5000. Is this correct and are there any packages that has everything with it.

Tow bar
Tow bar bracket
Braking system

You will also need to install wiring for lighting on the toad. The toad tail lights, brake lights and turn signals operate from your motorhome light system. You can either install additional bulbs in the tail light housings or use existing bulbs that then need to be isolated by diodes.

You can do a Ready Brute Elite tow bar, Blue Ox base plate, light kit and breakaway for about $1500 plus install. I installed all of these items myself. Saved a bundle of money.

X2, check this option out, inexpensive, simple and it works well.
