Equinox Toad

Anybody currently have a Chevy Equinox as a toad. Recently purchased one and will install a Blue Ox baseplate. Any pros or cons, all will be appreciated.

We have been towing an Equinox for 8,000+ miles with no issues. It has the Blue Ox baseplate with the ReadyBrute towbar system.

Did you install the baseplate or have it installed?

I installed a Blue Ox baseplate on our Equinox myself. There were 2 problems.

1. Getting the nuts up inside the box section of the frame and getting the bolts tightened without the nuts spinning can be difficult. I had the same problem installing the base plate on the Saturn Vue we had previously. The nuts are threaded, rectangular plates with a heavy wire tail welded on. You have to bent the wire just right to fish the nut up inside the frame so the nut sits flat enough for the threads on the bolt to engage. Some aren't too hard, others are difficult. If you don't get the threads started straight, the nut will rotate and you can twist off the wire tail. Then you have no way to hold the nut.

2. There is a small section of a seam on the inside of the front fascia that has to be ground away to eliminate interference with the base plate. The Blue Ox instructions are very good with photos, but the way the photo of that particular spot was taken made the spot very difficult for me to identify. It took me several hours of trial and error to find the right spot.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be installing one myself in about a week. I've watched a video but they didn't mention these issues.

I have a 2010 Equinox with a Blue Ox tow bar and Base Plate. I also had an SMI
braking system installed. It takes me about 10 minutes to attach or unattach and that includes a safety and lights check. It has never been a problem. I keep the speed under 65 and take a break every 2-3 hours and run the engine for a few minutes just like the manual recommends. I've towed the car for about 10,000 miles and it has almost 50,000 driving miles on the odometer. The vehicle has been very reliable and I still have the original set of tires and brakes on it. I guess I am saying that you should not have any problems.

Equinox Toad

Thanks for all the comments. I'll be attempting to install the base plate later this fall. I have used Blue Ox for the last 10 years and had no trouble with it. Installed the base play on a Chevy Tracker, just sold The Chevy Tracker and plan on installing the base plate on the Equinox soon.
