Equinox toad

We had to get a new toad due to problems with our escape. But we have now had 2 instances of the car starting to rock after it goes off pavement
First time we thought it was just a goofy fluke due to running on scored asphalt along the edge and figured we got to close to the edge and the tow slipped off and came up with a bounce. Today we came off the main road, down a slight rolled edge as we made a slow turn onto the side road. We heard what sounded like a flat tire thumping. DH looked at the rear view monitor and he said that he could see the front of the toad bouncing back and forth. Still checked the tires. All fine. Unhooked and I drove it to the park to check the steering. It handled fine.
If you tow an Equinox, have you experienced this type of behavior?
This seems reminiscent of what I have read that the little smart cars did when they were towed 4 down. Thanks!

We had a 2012 Equinox AWD LTZ and after about 6 months it started dragging the front tires through a 90 degree left or right hand turns. Took it to several Chevy dealers which ended up being a waste time. One dealer said there was a recall on the power steering units of the 4 cylinder models, but we didn't pursue that because we weren't experiencing any of the reported problems in the recall letter.

Our final fix was to trade it in on a Jeep Wrangler Sport. An even more final fix was to trade the MH and Jeep in on a Fifth Wheel. We are back in our comfort level.

Hope your situation gets resolved.

The condition you are experiencing is called " bump steer ". It is caused by the vehicle not having enough positive caster built into it's alignment settings. The Equinox 4 cylinder models are much more prone to this due to having electric assist power steering. The 6 cylinder models have conventional hydraulic power steering and are not as prone to exhibit the condition.

We tow a 2012 Equinox with 4 cyl engine, purchased in 2011, have towed it many miles with no problems. It is one of the easiest tow vehicles we have owned.
We did have a problem towing a VW Rabbit many years ago. When the steering wheel would go back and forth , I would stop and ease ahead, once it straightened out it would tow straight.

I have a 2015 Equinox 4-cyl and never experienced this issue. I've towed it easily over 10,000 miles so far and find it quite easy to deal with.

On a similar note - that Equinox is a dream to drive as well. I can drive from CT to FL straight through and not be sore all over from sitting poorly or uncomfortably. One of the most comfortable cars I've had in a while.

Exactly, I'm able to cram a kayak, Weber grill and tons of other smaller items inside it while towing, plus one can put a bike rack on the back and there's always the roof rack to drag even more stuff around - which I've done as well!

Is your towbar close to level between the moho and toad? If there is too much of an angle it could pull funny in a hard turn.

We need to look at the angle, eyeing it it looks about 2 inches below the hitch. We are are about three days out from home, so that will be one of those things that are done to see if it needs one of those step downs.

A 2 inch difference is within all tow bar manufacturers limits. Also if the car attachment points are 2 inches below the center line of the tow bar that is an ideal height difference.

I tow a 2013 Equinox and have had zero issues in 12k miles. My concern with yours is it may relate to being AWD. ours is FWD only, never an issue.

I didn't actually note any issues with mine, so yes, I would expect you to have NO issues

My Equinox is a FWD just to set the record straight, not an AWD.
