Escape

Hi, anyone towing a Ford Escape? According to the DingyGuide they are towable through 2012, FWD or 4x4. Must run the engine every 5 or 6 hours but that's not a problem. Not going to do those 800 mile days any more! Retired folks shouldn't have that kind of schedule I hope. Thanks, Dave

Pick something else. Ford discontinued their towing OK for those models after creating a new business in transmission replacements. They might be towable with a transmission pump added but I think Ford eventually nixed that idea as well.

Lots of other things available - even from Ford.

I agree with luvlabs, we have toad our 2010 Edge since new and have had no issues. When doing my research I also found that the Escape had transmission issues so did not go that route. FYI

I just bought a 2016, not to tow, but the owners manual is pretty explicit on towing or should I say not towing. A 2014 is going to be very similar to my new one.

When I was looking for a flat towable crossover the 2 that kept coming up were the Ford Edge AWD and the Honda CRV. We bought a 2011 Edge and it has worked fine. The Escape wasn't listed.

Thanks everyone, I've been doing research too and I think I'll look elsewhere for a tow. Concerned about weight behind the 8.1 WH so I keep looking at the smaller vehicles. Dave

We tow a CRV behind our 8.1 WH. Works fine. Our only issue is the infamous weak CRV battery. Have not decided yet on the fuse disconnect or a larger battery approach.

Regardless of what the owners manual says, the 09 escape is not towable....at least the one I am familiar with which had multiple transmissions in 5000 miles.

The only Escape that IS towable is the Hybrid, it has a CV transmission, completely different animal from the standard automatic. Didn't know about it when bought our 2010, which has had two replacement trans, and now sports a Ford/Remco lube pump. Other than the trans issue, it actually is great small SUV to drive. Too bad Ford didn't step up to the issue when it first reared its head, their refusal to acknowledge the problem, and blame it on the consumer, has totally lost me as a future customer.

What are you owing the Edge with. I have a 35L Winnie with the 8.1, can I handle the weight? Thanks, Dave

I'm towing an Escape, not sure how much different an Edge weighs, but that 8.1 should be able to handle it.

Curb weight on a 2015 Ford Edge will range from 3925 lbs. to 4095 lbs. depending on options and engines selected.

Is the Winnie on a 22K or 24K chassis? Mine is on a 22K chassis and I'm right at 22K GVW and 26K GCW with the Focus on the dolly (about 4K lbs.)

24K chasis. Leaning towards the Edge. Dingyguide for all years says towable with either fwd or awd. Daughter has one and loves it.
