even brake emergency brake switch failure

Just an FWI...had my toad put on the brakes unexpectedly last trip. Couldn't figure out why so went w/o for remainder of trip.

Upon my return home checked the system....pulled the breakaway switch, nothing. Tapped on it, then braking engaged intermittently. Switch had a strange rattle. Removed ( sw is normally open with plunger inserted) and broke it apart to see what was going on. The rattle was one of the wire terminals had corroded off switch contact. Suspect my original issue was that loose wire shorted across contacts and thus engaged my brakes. Ordered new switch. All is good

Fortunately, we just pulled out of CG going slow. Loud screech, skid marks and just about stopped my rig.

Didn't know for sure what caused the braking, didn't recall if my monitor went off in coach. This did cause me to investigate when I got home. When I ckd breakaway sw and didn't get braking until I tapped sw, then I suspected sw failure. I busted open sw case and the wire had corroded loose alowing it to short the switch closed even with plunger inserted.

The brakeaway switch seem to have a problem with rusting and failing. Good to check this switch often.

Did the ICX remote not tell you why? If I pull the plunger out of mine the red and green lights will flash, it beeps, and the display states "EMERGENCY BRAKING STOP IMMEDIATELY". I have not had one fail, but had others talk about it when I had my 5'er. I carry a spare, but you have to wonder, the plunger type switches are widely used in the RV Industry, why has someone not come up with a better version?

The event was so quick not like the plunger pulled, just wire shorted briefly. Didn't recall the icx alarm.

I wonder how often the ICX updates the status from the unit?
