The Even Brake transmitter seems to be the source of battery drain in my 06 Vue when the car sits idle for a couple of days.

It gets its power from a 20amp fuse that also powers the cigar lighter. I figure it shouldn't draw any current unless it is connected to the Even Brake.

I've disconnected the wiring and will leave it off for a few days to see if the battery still drains down.

In the meantime, is anyone else having this sort of problem?

Took me a day or two to find this post.

Last week upon arriving home from a trip I found our tow, a Honda Pilot, as dead as a hammer. Had to get a friend to come and jump it so we could detach from the MH. This unit is relatively new and this the second time it has happened. Have not been overly impressed with the quality and performance of my past BrakePro so I traded up to the Even Brake this July.

Upon called Brakemaster, they said some of the units are having electronic problems which cause the compressor to run too long and
thereby drain the battery. They are sending me a new one and I am to send back the defective one. Required a $50 deposit to guarantee that I would send it back.

If I had been thinking I should have asked for a refund instead of a replacement... then I would have bought the new Air Force One by SMI. A friend to whom I referred the SMI unit had it installed today. The service tech putting it in (his first Air Force One) thought it was quite a unit and was impressed.

The little black box that transmits info to the receiver in the MH (both have tech names, neither of which I can recall at the moment) was connected directly to a 12VAC source. The battery ran down with only that component attached.

I have not (yet) experienced a battery drain while towing and the Even Brake in use.

Since losing the battery twice I have since removed the power to the transmitter and have had no battery drain since.

After removing the connection I inserted a 20 amp fuse holder in line with the wiring to the transmitter and an alligator clip. When we get ready to tow I'll just hook up the alligator clip directly to the battery.

I noticed with mine that the "little black box" would sometimes keep flashing red after I disconnected the Even Brake. I installed an inline fuse that I quickly pop open and then reconnect which seems to stop it--that may be the source of a power drain when not using the Even Brake itself. Your alligator clip may achieve the same end, though I would want to make sure that it has a good enough contact to be able to supply adequate power when in use.
