F53 Towing a 2008 Civic on a Dolly.. w or w/o surge brakes

We're headed to Traverse City from Texas in July. We'll be picking up a 2008 Civic Hybrid, with a curb weight of about 2800 lbs.

I'm considering buying a dolly. I can rent one, but doing so would put me on a schedule to get back to Texas, which I'm not interested in.

We have a 1999 V10 Class-A Holiday Rambler Vacationer. It has the banks kit.

I'd prefer a dolly with surge brakes, but I'm having a hard time finding one (I'm not going to buy a new one).

Can anyone comment on surge vs non-surge for a one-way trip with a Honda Civic?

Keep looking, you definitely want a dolly with brakes and surge brakes work the best and require no extra installation.

Surge brakes are like insurance. You never need it - until you NEED it. If you can guarantee yourself that you'll never need the 5-10 ft (or perhaps more) shorter stopping distance the surge brakes will provide from, say, 50 MPH during your trip, then you probably don't need them, but I don't know how you could guarantee that.
