I think I've seen other posts on this subject and I remember reading the 2013 Escape is towable 4 down if the transmission fluid level is reduced to the low end of being ok. Not doing this can result in damage to your transmission. Please don't take my word for it without more research but I'm sure I read this somewhere.

You may still get Ford to warrant the transmission if and when it burns up, but you're still out the time the unit is down for repair, and the hassle. And they may not warrant it a second time, because they will have then told you it's no longer towable 4-down. Not worth the hassle.

Luckily, we do not tow this car 4-down. We have a Chevy HHR which we tow. Sweet toad.

Ford issued a admendment on 2/1/2012 stating the Escapes purchased after that date were not towable. Escapes purchased before were still covered. My Escape just had the 3rd transmission installed on 11/14/2012 with no problems. Dealer called Ford and told them what they saw and Ford said to replace it. Ford is going to have a Lube pump installed, working on who pays what.

What pump kit did you have installed for $3,400?

Honda wasn't very happy that I could produce a letter on their letterhead from one of their support people stating that "our" Odyssey was towable four down. It even gave the "correct" method which was identical to the CR-V instructions.
I tried to get them to do a straight across trade for our used Ody to an '05 Pilot, they said NO. Guess I should have held out for more than just our money back on the towing gear since we totally relied on the letter to buy a towable vehicle.
But I do know of people who are towing the newer Ody's and Pilots with no trouble.
Also, due to a class action suit they extended the transmission warranty to 105,000 miles or 7 years as I remember. Guess that's about gone now though.

The transmission was the same for 2005 and 2006. If I had it to do over again I would have kept the 06 and towed it.

Yes I expect Ford to stand behind the vehicle that was sold to me for a specific task and it is unable too preform that task without the addition of the pump. The salesman, the sales manager and the Owners Manual all said I could tow the Escape if I met certain guidelines I met the guideline's and the vehicle did not preform as advertised. I expect
Ford to make it right.

Well I for one do hope that Ford steps up and pays for the pump for you.

We almost bought an Escape a couple of years ago to tow, fortunately I started hearing about all the problems folks we're having with burning up Tranny's, so we decided to go with a Jeep Liberty instead.

Keep the pressure on Ford, cause it's there mistake, they offered the Escape as being towable 4 down until Feb, of this year.
