Ranchgal,
WE considered towing our 2012 TDI Jetta, 6 speed manual four down. However, VW as well as five local dealers discouraged this as it would violate the warrentee as well as, potentially damage the transmission. We did not chance it and bought as road master Dolly for towing this vehicle.

this the reply I received

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Canada Customer Relations and bringing your inquiry regarding your 2011 Jetta TDI manual to our attention. Your satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us and we appreciate your time in allowing us to assist with this matter.

Your vehicle can be towed behind a motor home; we recommend reading your owner's manual under 'Towing', page 341, to ensure that your vehicle is being towed properly. To inquire if your KESSY system can be partially disabled, please contact your nearest Volkswagen dealership and speak with a technician for further assistance.

I appreciate your providing me with the opportunity to respond to your inquiry and hope you find this information useful. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me through our Customer Relations Center at (800) 822-8987. If I am not available, one of my associates will be able to assist you or please visit us on the web at www.vw.ca.

Please be advised that you may receive a short survey by e-mail regarding your customer service experience with Customer Relations.

You have the leave the key fob in the car with the ignition on,but you have periodically starting the car so the battery does not go dead

if the battery goes dead the steering lock WILL engage and Damage to the car will result

as stated in other posts mileage will accrue that does not really matter my home dealership I would not trust them to open a can of soup

the dealership told me that the steering must be locked to flat tow the vehicle
