Flat towable small SUVs

Which of the small SUVs can be flat towed without alteration?
Which can be flat towed with a minor alteration that does not affect warranty?
Any of these, Toyota Rav4, Chevy Equinox, GMC Terrain? If not, what is my best bet?
Thanks

The chevy equinox can be flat towed, simply need to remove ignition fuse so as not to drain battery.

Add Saturn Vue and Suzuki Grand Vitara to the list.

If you're looking at used, be careful with the Equinox. While the 2010 Equinox is towable, most older models were not. The exception is the Sport model that was available in 2009.

You can check for other vehicles in the Motorhome Magazine Dinghy Towing Guide (halfway down the page on the right).

ALWAYS check the owners manual before buying any vehicle for towing. Look for a section called "Recreational Towing."

Happy hunting.

We have a Ford Edge SUV crossover. Our Ford manual states that it can be flat towed behind a motorhome.

The Edge isn't exactly a small SUV, though.

Jeep Wranglers, both 2 door and 4 door are flat towable with no mods. I see mostly Jeeps and CRV's being towed. I have a new 4 door Jeep and you don't even know that it is there when towing it. My wife and I like to fish and adventure and the Jeep alows us to go just about anywhere we want to go.

Good luck

Our 06 Jeep Liberty is flat towable. Be sure to check the owners manual or MotorHome Mags Dinghy Tow list as I don't believe all Jeep Models are flat towable because of the differant transmission models used.

Lightbulb Flat towing a Ford Escape Hybrid

Pro's
I have been towing a 2008 Ford Hybrid all wheel drive for over a year now and it is so easy. Put it in neutral and turn the key one notch so the engine shuts off and the steering wheel does not lock. Done! I don't even know its there, but boy can we put a lot of stuff in that small SUV.
Con's
If you want a toad brake system the Escape's, brakes are active so they can charge the main hybrid battery so you have to use proportional brake system with pressure adjustment. We already had the brake box system and it will only work on a dead brake system. This also seems to run the starting battery down on longer trips so I have installed a charging system from the coach through the 7 pin plug. A couple of those small solar panels plugged in to the cigg lighter works if you only travel during the day.

My understanding is that the non hybrid all wheel drive Escape's cannot be flat towed.

We also have a Tahoe that we tow when we have a bunch of grandkids with us and we need the extra third row of seats. There are more steps to tow it such as removing a fuse. We know its back there and is pretty heave so we do not put things in it like golf clubs and so on. Its so heavy that you must have a brake or you really have a PUSHER.

I have a 2 door 2007 Jeep wrangler and what minor modification are you talking about that would make it able to be flat towable ? As far as I see I believe there is more than just minor modification to be done in order to flat tow it. But if you know otherwise please do share.
