Flat towing 1997 Honda CRV.

New to the forum. Does anyone know if you can flat tow a 1997 Honda CRV all wheel drive. In the process of purchasing a motorhome and we already own the CRV and hope we can flat tow it.

Suggest you read the towing section of the owners manual. If you don't have it, you can probably find one on the internet.

Until the 2015 model, I think CRVs have always been flat towable. However I second the suggestion that you refer to the owner's manual. For further reassurance you could call Honda (Honda America, not a dealership) to see if there have been any issues reported. It should make a great towed vehicle.

If you have the manual, there are specific instructions for RV towing. If you don't have a manual, let us know and it can be posted. I towed a 99 CRV about 50K miles with no problem, your 97 should be the same.

From page 127 of the 1997 Honda CRV Owner's Manual:

Towing Your Vehicle Behind a
Motorhome

Your vehicle can be towed behind a
motorhome at legal highway speeds.

To avoid damage to the 4WD system,
it must be towed with all four wheels
on the ground.

After attaching your vehicle to your
motorhome, do the following to
prepare it for towing:

Check the transmission fluid level
to make sure it is full (see page

150).

Release the parking brake.
Start the engine.
Press on the brake pedal. Shift to

D4, then to N.
Turn off the engine. Leave the key
in the ignition switch.

Leave the ignition switch in
Accessory (I) so the steering
wheel does not lock. Make sure
the radio and any items plugged
into the accessory power sockets
are turned off so you do not run
down the battery.

Thanks to everyone for the info. Now to purchase the base plate, tow bars, etc. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
