I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox, per manual, this vehicle is towable 4 down, you need to turn off all accessories (radio, ac, and traction control) then pull the fuse to the instrument panel, with out looking I believe this is fuse 32 a 5 amp brown fuse. When this is removed, mileage will not add up.

Remember to reinstall, if not, you can have some issues such as the ignition key will not release. I found this out the hard way. When fuse reinstalled, ignition key issued resolved.

I tow the 2011 GMC Terrain (sister to the Equinox) check the owners manual and it tells you to remove "fuse #32 discreet logic fuse) and also put your ignition switch in the acc. position, once I did not have the key in the acc. position and it clocked up the miles, when the above steps are followed you will not accumulate miles

Thank you everyone for all your help. After pulling the fuse (we actually put a cutoff switch on it, with the directions from one of you) & "putting the key in the correct position" we finally did stop acruing miles. It is really a pleasure to tow it & only takes a few minutes to hook up & unhook. We really appreciate all the helpful people on the IRV2 Forum.

Make sure you pull fuse #32 located in the Fuse Panel console on the passengers side And Not The Panel In The Engine Compartment. We Tow A 2012 Equinox And The miles Do Not Register. I Wired Switch So Don't Have To Pull The fuse. How Do I Make These Capital Letters Go Away?

In reading these post concerning the #5 fuse I would to bring up another problem with Terrain Equinox SUV's. That is with the V6 model and the Power Steering. Soon after taking delivery I noticed when I backed the car up there was a slight shutter and binding noise coming from the steering.
I went back to the dealer four times and they replaced the pump hoses and flushed the system to no avail. The dealer advised GM was working on a cure. After two and invoking the Florida Lemon Law GM came up with a fix.
However after this fix the problem persisted. GM sent an engineer out to look at the car, after his inspection he said that the installation o the Base Plate had blocked the air flow to the Power Steering cooler. However this condition started before the base plate was installed. Outside mechanics and Blue Ox have advised this cooler is an ambient cooler and the absence
Of air flow should not affect it. If any other RVer out there has had this problem Iwod like to know.

Most of you know this, but some may not. For those of us that pull a fuse or have installed a switch, remember. The towed miles do not accrue on the odometer. If you are like me and rotate and balance your tires at a specific mile interval you cannot go by the odometer on the towed. I keep a milage log for all our trips and use that milage log + the odometer reading to determine my tire rotation. Really messes with Walmart when I show 200 miles since last rotation/balance

but when I explain they allways honor the lifetime rotaion/balance. Oil change is by the odometer. I don't know if the towed miles affects the trans service interval, anyone know?

We are towing the sister car a 2011 GMC Terrain awd, I found if I leave the ignition switch in the RUN position it adds up miles, if I put it in the ACC/RUN position as per the owners manual instructions it does not register the miles BUT the lighter outlets that I plug my Blue OX brake into loses power with the ignition in that ACC/RUN position therefore my brake system is useless because it is not powered I have decided to have a separate lighter socket wired that does not shut off, also I remove fuse 32 before towing

post 26 says the plug in the back stays hot. just picked my 2013 equinox up today so I can't say so myself. can't wait to tow mine.

For at least the 2013 Equinox, the 12V plug in the rear cargo area is hot all the time. The others are hot when the ignition is in ACC so they will work for aux brake.

I did a fuse shut off for the dome light on my TJ Wrangler but its the same for anything. Take your fuse out and short it out to 'blow it' . I took a Dremel and cut a little plastic off the top of the fuse to expose more metal and soldered wires to that and put a switch and a fuse holder in between . The circuit is still protected by the same size fuse but has a switch to shut off power easily.

I can handle the modification work but am not sure of a safe way to short the fuse. How did you do it?

Yes it does but the strange thing is when you are towing all those things the fuse fuses.... You don't need 'em. all you need are ... Well, electrically you don't need ANYTHING on the towed. (less you have an electric aux-braking system) All power for lights and such comes from the towing vehicle. (motor home).

You get a switch kit (or make one up) and install it under the fuse (pull the fuse, plug in the kit, put the fuse in the kit's fuse holder) and flip the switch,

Alas they charge way too much for the kit, but you can home brew one for a fraction of the price.
